Special Consideration:

• Chewable or dissolving capsules may contain sugar or aspartame, so caution is needed in diabetes and phenylketonuria (increased levels of an amino acid called phenylalanine).

• Common: Acute symptoms like anorexia, lassitude, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, weight loss, polyuria, sweating, headache, thirst, vertigo, and raised concentrations of calcium and phosphate in plasma and urine.

Indications:

Vitamin D deficiency:

Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration:

  • Treatment: 20,000 IU once every 2 weeks for 6 weeks.
  • Prevention: 20,000 IU once every 6 weeks.

Interaction

• With medicine: Interactions with antacids, phenytoin, phenobarbital, cholestyramine, colestipol, digoxin, thiazide diuretics, and others.
• With food & others: Avoid alcohol or tobacco consumption while taking vitamin D3.

Contraindications

Hypercalcemia-associated diseases, hypersensitivity, severe renal impairment, hypervitaminosis D, nephrolithiasis.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Increased Vitamin D3 needs during pregnancy.
• Assumed passage into breast milk; monitor serum calcium levels.

Precautions & Warnings
